About Plotting Up

Adam ColemanMy name is Adam. At 31 years old I decided to take on an allotment plot (well half size as the city council run allotments no longer provide full size plots due to the high demand and long waiting list) in my home city of Canterbury, Kent. I was on the waiting list for roughly a year from my initial enquiry in 2010. Having very little experience in the way of gardening and growing I have also decided that this would be a good time to venture into the world of blogging. Therefore I am going to use my new allotment as the basis of my blog and share with the world my experiences.

So why take on an allotment? Well, I’ve always enjoyed the outdoor life and in recent years have become a keen walker. As a youngster my love was always for football but following a series of injuries that dream quickly faded away and so as I have got older I have struggled to find past times that both keep my mental interest and that also provide a physical challenge. I see having an allotment as being able to meet these twin needs and also to hopefully keep me out of the pub or off the sofa at weekends. I also think it will be an experience getting to know the random assortment of other allotment tenants, listening to their stories and observing the politics of the growing community.

And lets not forgot the crops. The main reason most people have an allotment is the cultivation of crops to feed themselves. My father had allotments and was a keen grower of fruit and veg and I can still remember just how much tastier things were that came to the kitchen fresh.

So plot yourselves up and join me on my growing adventure………….

Adam
